Hi we are planning on getting some custom made mattress' for the front bed and am just wondering if anyone out there has done this and could tell us what the depth of the mattress is that they had made?
We have a 16.49.1 and want to go as deep as we can but obviously we have restrictions having to close the bed end.
We have measured the existing mattress but know we have a bit more room to spare just not sure of the best way to measure for that?

Any ideas would be great.

Cheers

I think Lara did this as have a few others. You also may have to raise the storage areas at each end (depending on model) so that the floor is level then you can have a 2 piece mattress that zip together.

Ours is two pieces.
You cannot go wider than the upright bars that hold the canvas in place. Any wider and it becomes difficult to close the bed ends.

We have a 2010 Expanda 12.37 and made the bed modification (uniform thickness - middle zip) two years ago. You do need to be careful with the thickness of any new mattress - our new mattress is 18cm thick - much thicker than the original Jayco innerspring mattress. In our Expanda when folded together to form a thickness of 36cm this fully fills the available space behind the back of the dining seat. Any thicker and we would not have had space to fit the folded mattress.

Obviously not all Jayco models are the same. You should be careful determining the maximum size of the storage area available for the new mattress before placing an order. Our 18cm thick mattress from Beds Direct was the thickest (and best and most expensive) that they made.
The conversion was well worth the effort and the only regret was that we did not do it sooner.

Thanks, we have placed an order & will hopefully be ready next week. Can't wait.
We chose the best mattress we could get that would fit in the hole as we will be living in the van for the next year or two!

I hate that Jayco use a three piece mattress. Don't know why they could not have used two single bed like sections on each bed front and rear???

I am going to look at upgrading the mattress in the front of our 17.56-2OB soon, are the dimensions the same as above? What are the two thicknesses you guys are using?

Hi Hubble80,

We went to Slumberland in Geelong and they were very helpful. They do a lot of caravan mattress' and knew exactly what we needed.
We picked top of the range that was available so it will last.
The measurements are 1800 x 1460 x 180.
We are waiting to pick them up but will let you know how they are when we get them.

Cheers
