Hi all,
Once again here i am asking advice from the great people of this forum as i seem to get more help here than in any store i go to,i have rung several 4x4 stores and get different stories and thousands of dollars quoted just for wiring and nobody seems to be able to tell me if my alternator can handle what i am trying to achieve or not.

I need to find someone in south east Melbourne that actually knows Jeeps and get my Anderson lead put on for the van and the 12 pin wired for the fridge. Does anybody know good auto elec ???

also i need to work out a setup for my engel for the back of the car,was going to get a battery box and i have been told that's a stupid idea.....Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

need to have it done before labour day weekend for Tidal River.
If it means anything the van has a dual battery setup in it.

Thanks Nick

Hi Nick,

I'm not too sure on the space under the bonnet of the Jeep, but that would be an ideal space for the spare battery, some people prefer it in the boot, but everyone's different. If your going to put on an anderson plug there's no need to get a 12 pin plug.

Hope you get it all done in time for Tidal River, i used to love going there as a kid.

I've seen second battery done well in the boot of an MY14 Jeep GC
Be careful to get an isolator that releases the voltage at 13.0 volts as you'll find most set to 13.2 volts.
The car spends the majority of its time charging at 13 volts and only occasionally 14 volts.
Mine came from jaycar and allows you to 'dial in' the release voltage.
There are other ways to do it too which I'm sure you'll read about.
Searching the jeep garage site and you'll find loads of information
Cheers
Andrew.

Not sure about an Auto Electrician in Melb but an idea for the fridge in the back of the car is one of these (or similar) http://waeco.com.au/products5.asp?id=259&subCatId2=127&subCatId=78&catId=77 I assume you have a cig lighter socket in the back, most cars seem to nowadays, so it's a simple thing just to plug in. The benefit is it's portable should you want to leave the fridge at the camp site or something.

Be very careful who you pick to fit it all, one mistake and the Jeep is dead, as has happened to a mate on his, the auto elect blew the ECU. The trick is to wire from the battery. If you got to www.ausjeepoffroad.com there is heaps of info and blokes to help you out, only Jeeps at AJOR.

The Jayco dealer in Perth had real problems wiring up the brake controller in our Jeep and had to send it across the road to a specialist auto electrician to get sorted.
