Does anyone know how these work (technically)?

Installed a grey water tank and the sensors worked perfect for the first few weeks.

Now it's showing ad half full. I believe the tank is empty.

Can any "slime" in dishwater effect the sensor (or washing up after a curry or roast leaves the dishwater with a film). Can this film affect the sensors making them show as "on"?

Yes, any moist Goobers will, scum and crud will built up in tank no matter how clean your dish water is...I know when mine is near full when I empty one tank of water it's nearly time for some sneaky draining.......of course the connections may have come loose...

Mine often shows incorrect levels after use. The drifter sensors (or similiar) are very sensitive to scum but seem to come right once the tank dries out or has been flushed
