North of Bendigo past Elmore is a small town with petrol station and general store with a fantastic lake and free camping area. It's pet friendly has dump point with toilets. Closed between Xmas and New Years. After heavy rain can get boggy areas but easily accessible for off roadways , on road and motor homes busy school holidays Easter etc great boat ramp and fishing

Thanks @mrsmfexpanda,
this is now the third recommendation about this free camping at Greens Lake.

Too late to alter our plans to go to Walhalla next weekend, but this will now be the destination for our next trip.

Even more so since we just looked at the map and found we will be going via Heathcote. Why is that important? Not at all if one doesn't like meat pies.

Heathcote is the home of Molly Maes pie shop. Without a doubt the best meat pies we have ever tasted. But that was quite a few years ago on our way to Bridgewater to work on BlazeAid. Just googled and it seems they are still there!

Bought a couple of pies on the way through, drove a km or two into Heathcote and ate them at a picnic area. We enjoyed them so much that when we were finished we drove straight back out and bought two more. Never done that before.

So now, two chances to see if they are still as good as we remember, on the way up and on the way back.

cheers
Mike

Whooops, I might have been too quick regarding Molly Mae's pie shop. Looks like it might not be open anymore. What a shame.

Still going to Green's Lake though.

regards
Mike
