I have a Tekonsha - P3 and noticed that for the 17.56 the setting needs to be very high (7) now on my old caravan (4) and on my tandem trailer (2). I understand that the more weight in the trailer the higher the setting, so putting my 1.8T tractor on the trailer I bump it up to 3.5 but the 17 seems excessive and that's not even at lock-up or the van pulling at the car.

Was wondering what other peoples setting is for the Tekonsha - P3 (not relevant if you don't have this controller I suppose)? Do I need to look at the brakes or is this right for this van?

Brookes, I've got mine set at 6.5 (Falcon XR6 - 14.44 Expanda). I could probably go higher, it doesn't lock up but I couldn't tell you what was right or wrong as only had the van for a month.

Another thing I noticed driving home, stopped at roadworks and playing with the controller I found a cool "Troubleshooting" section that showed all the voltages. Unfortunately for me the "Stoplight" voltage remain on about 0.16v even with the brakes applied so I am guessing that is just the CANBUS voltage and that the thing has been wired incorrectly.

Yes, Mine is very high, I think around 10 and it still wont lock up I was wondering if my trailer brakes need adjusting. I also have it set on boost 2

Brookes,

I had the the guys at Bendigo set up my P3 for the 17.56-2 OB. It has a tare of 1,967KG, and we filled the full tanks water tanks (+ 160KG) and 2 x 9KG gas bottles being pulled by a Land Cruiser...

Set to 10.5v & Boost Level 1 and pulls up nicely without locking the brakes.

Don't think the brakes need adjusting as it is pulling up well.

Cheers,

Ro

With the 16.49 on the back i am only ever at about 3-5 max and at 5 its pulling up the Patrol, you do have a bit more weight but it seems high?
Cheers

Well I RTFM'd :embarassed: and it says two relevant things. 1. That on first setup set it on 7 and it has a max of 15, so that's interesting suggesting that 7 is a middle setting. 2. That I should be seeing a voltage when displaying the stoplight. So I gotta get that sorted. Oh and another thing I learn was about the boost. Bloody manual being all showy and smart-alexy all the bloody time. The redeeming fact in all this was the missus never caught me reading the manual and I know you blokes won't tell anyone. :)
