G'day campers,

We have a 2008 Hawk Touring and we're wondering how other campers were taking their bikes along with them? We have the roof racks on top so could get some rack mounts but just looking for any ideas.

Cheers in advance.

I take mine on the roof of the car. But racks on the Hawk seems like a good idea. The Thule racks are expensive but excellent quality and very quick to fit a bike to. (The tandem is in a custom rack I made by joining two Aldi racks together).

For the front of my expanda I am fitting one of these.

It is not finished yet, sits backwards and has a rest to support the weight, the latch system will be used to hold it up to allow the bed to open.

I think the same principle may work for a Hawk.
IMHO only a fool would trust this product for its intended purpose, this is the cheap $271 version of a European model at $2,000 +.

My van has a 3 bike rack on the back, as well, this can not be trusted but will just use it for Mums bike on short trips only, the chassis has been strengthened for it and still not strong enough for how pictured below. I'd avoid this method.

We have just purchased a 2011 eagle outback, has anyone put a Reece hitch bracket on the back to allow that style bike carrier to slot in ?

Well we have 5 bikes and an Expanda 20.64 OB. I spent a long time researching how we were going to carry all the bikes. I didn't want to use roof racks - mainly due to the difficulty of putting bikes on the roof. With a double ended Expanda putting bikes on the rear end would also require replacing and upgrading the rear bumper ($1000 I have been quoted) although in the end I may have to do something like that as well to carry the fifth bike. In the end we went with the Isi 4X4 mounted on the draw bar. It's probably the most expensive option but the result looks like it should easily handle our next trip to the outback over long corrugated roads.

I had a local guy in Bayswater (wa) weld a Reece hitch in the rear bumper and fitted our bike
Carrier into that, worked a treat

Hi, look up Isi carriers. A bit on the pricey side but great design and easy to use. I made a copy and it works a treat.
