Okey dokey - last one...

There is now only one caravan park on Bruny Island - The Capt Cook Caravan Park
http://www.capcookolkid.com.au/
The other is now gone, gone, gone.....

CCCP is located in Adventure Bay, and sits between a river and the main road. This park again is just a big loop with back to back spaces in the middle. Theres about 30-40ish avaialble sapces and as many cabins. There are also unpower sites close to the river, and at the far end of the loop road. Across the road is the foreshore with a great swimming beach - all sand, clear clear blue water, and small waves. Apparantly whales make a stop in there too on their way past in season.

The park is pet friendly and camp fires are permitted. There are shelters near the river, which I think are what they call a rec room. The amenities are pretty average, undersized, keyed and showers cost $1 for 5 minutes. On check in, the staff seemed pretty uninterested in being there. On the first day we were there, it was (finally) starting to warm up (bush fires the next day only a few km away), and the smell eminating from the van sewer connection/gully trap behind us was vile. The maintenance chap said he'd run some water down it, but the smell still persisted the whole time we were there, but not as bad.... Lots of trees and shady stuff.

$30 per night, plus another $7 per kid for powered or $25+$7 unpowered.

overall 2.5-3/5

Bruny Island is a great spot for a few days. Take the ferry over from Kettering, about 40minutes South of old Hobart town. Car and van was $65 return and runs about every 45 minutes. The caravan park (and general tourist area) is on the South island about 40minutes from the ferry. This time over there we took the 3 hr Cruise which was pretty good.

Bruny is also the only place where the white Bennet's Wallaby is common. The ranger does a info night every night during summer for the Mutton Birds and Little Penguins which nest there.
We were there in December, but I understand it is a very different place in Winter - cold, wet and windy, so pick your time to go.
