Hi brains trust. Found the little transformer unplugged today (not sure if it just fell out at some stage on the road).

Its a 2016 20.64.1 OB van. The Hot water is the white insulated box, but what is the little black box used for?

Thanks in advance.

Definitely the breakaway battery. In our 20.64-1 this battery eventually went flat.

Had to go to auto elec to get advice. After testing we found that this battery gets charged in two ways.

1. When your car is connected (car power thru to van)
2. When 240v is connected to van and the small charger for the break away battery module is plugged in and switched on.

So if you do not use your van frequently, this battery can drain.

Note. Solar panel does not help with charging this battery.

Just looking at the little 240 volt charger @Macca_75 , if it is for charging the break away battery, it should always be connected to charge/maintain charge for that battery. The output of such a small transformer would probably only be 500ma at approx 14.0 volts, so no chance of over-charging. Just always keeping it up at max charge and voltage for when/if needed.
