Hello,

I recently picked up a 2016 Jayco Starcraft 17.58-3 Outback and need to use the table as a bed (as two adults and one 1.5 year old in the double bed is too squishy!).

I found a place in Sydney that supplies and can custom cut Dunlop foam to any size. They also have some pre cut sizes and fold up mattresses already available.

I am yet to measure the table bed width and length and it seems as though in my particular model, the back rest cushions are stapled in and therefore not removable. I might have to see If I can remove them to make extra length or if the mattress will fit underneath the bottom of it for now and then remove the back rest cushions when the kids get older/longer.

Link to the company that can supply/cut the foam: https://www.thefoambooth.com.au/our-services/custom-cutting/

I will see how much a custion size matterss will cost, but othewise these look reasonable: https://www.thefoambooth.com.au/product-category/matresses/caravan-122-x-188/

Has anyone got the bed converter kit from Jayco or made their own mattress up?
Do you know if there is any weight limit for the table bed? I have asked Jayco and am just waiting on a reply.

An update on this.

I took my bottom cushions to the above place and found that the bottom cushion is Dunlop 36/200. A piece of the same foam cut to fill the gap between the bottom cushions/over the table (103cm x 57cm) is $220 without a cover.

The foam is pretty dense as that is what is used for the bottom cushions so I am considering if I will patch it or try a less dense foam ($130) but it may squash down too low.

Anyone made their own mods such as above or bought the bed converter kit and know if it feels the same as the bottoms cushions

I wonder if the Jayco bed converter kit uses the same foam and the bottom cushions or something different. I would assume the same. Jayco enquired with the factory who advised the table bed and bottom bunk have an 80kg weight limit :-( I am 6'3 ~ 96kg

I would also assume the bottom cushion is flipped over (as per my photos) in which case it then lays pretty flat.

Can anyone confirm?

Has anyone more who weighs more than 80kg slept on either the table bed or bottom bunk bed as they both have a 80kg weigh limit.

Can anyone with the bed converter kit confirm if the middle "bed converter kit" cushion is the same as the bottom/seat cushions?

Anyone at all?

Hi @Jared01 I have the same van with the conversion kit as we have 3 children. I sleep in the conversion with my 2.5yr old when we go away with no issues if you are worried about weight. The table is NOT used for the bed, it is too wide, a separate board is supplied with the kit. The middle cushion is the same material as the seats. On the conversion beds the seat cushions you sit on are flat so no they are not turned over and the seat backing cushions are not removed. The bed size is fine for a toddler and I believe my 8yr old would be comfortable sleeping it it also (but probably not my longer 12yr old). My husband slept on it by himself for one night on our last trip. You kind of sleep legs folded/diagonally. It works for us. Our longest trip has been 5 nights, so not sure it would work for travelling weeks on end. You might be interested in this thread showing how I use a topper to make the sheet fit (king single) and make it a tad softer (it's still pretty hard, though). Makes it easier to roll up and convert back to a table, however we keep the bed made up and have never used the inside table so far.

Hope that helps!

Edited to add - my husband weighs 85kg and my toddler and I weigh less than 80kg combined. I didn't know about the weight limit. I would be sleeping on it regardless though! You could add an extra brace bracket or something to support the board underneath.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

I think we will buy the middle cushion from a third party as I listed above and then buy a mattress topper from Target for example and that should sort out situation nicely.
