We recently spent a 4 day weekend at the Abercrombie Caves campground in the Abercrombie Karst Conservation Reserve (60km south of Bathurst). We had a pretty level site right on the banks of the creek (which unfortunately was not flowing due to recent lack of rainfall). But had enough water in pools to keep the kids occupied. This campground is made up of 3 camping areas. At each end there is a toilet/shower block which were clean and tidy (showers are free to use). At the visitor centre end there is a laundry which was an unexpected find and only $1 per wash. You cannot book a site and camp sites are not marked. It is first in, best site but there was plenty of room when we were there. Fire rings and tap water available every 2 sites. Cost for us was $30 per night (which is the rate for a family). The road down to the visitor centre is sealed but narrow and windy, with a few hairpin turns. The road from the visitors centre to the campground is gravel and even in our 2WD we managed to get the Expanda there and back - although in extremely wet weather access to the campground may be restricted. Plenty of wildlife to see - kangaroos, wild goats, possums, birds, bats. Access to the Abercrombie caves is within walking distance and there are a number of bush walks available. Kids loved fossicking and gold panning in the creek. We did a tour of the Bushrangers caves and the Archway which were pretty fascinating and the kids loved seeing the bats hanging in the caves. No mobile phone, TV or internet reception but there is a public phone available. Very much a bush experience but with the luxuries of our Expanda.

Another place to add to the list Famof05, thanks for sharing mate

Did you happen to get any pics?
Also are the caves self guided or guided and does the camp fees cover the cost of the caves if any?

Will try and post some pics when I download them from the camera.

Prices of cave tours are not included. The Archway can be done as a self guided tour. We did the Bushrangers cave tour which includes the Archway tour. The Bushrangers caves are done with a guide and then you do the Archway as a self guided tour on the way back. There are also night guided tours available. Attached below is the link to the tour options and prices.
