Hey people,
This is my first post on here and hopefully I'll be able to contribute in the future. We've got the hawk on the market and as soon as it goes we'll place an order for a new Expanda Outback 17.56-2 but was keen to hear if anyone else had got a quote and would be prepared to share what they were quoted or even actually paid? And what was included in the quote?

The first quote I was given was just a retail quote which included extended drawbar, extra battery, 2x150w solar panels, basic stereo, off-road hitch, picnic table, TV's antenna, drifter panel and shelves to robes. This came in at $56k.

I wasn't sure how hard to push so would be keen to hear what others are being quoted to give me a guide.

Cheers,
Jason.

Welcome to the forum @Jasman, you sure will notice the difference going from the Hawk to a van. What van is it, Expanda, Starcraft, Journey?

I have not done any pricing since buying our Journey at the Brisbane show in June 2014 so I can't help on pricing but I would advise you to go further afield to get quotes. Brisbane charge extra to cover the cartage north but you can get much better prices if you are prepared to pick up interstate like NSW or Victoria. At least give a phone call to places like Watsons at Coffs Hbr or Page Bros in Vic as it will give you a better idea. You may also have a holiday trip when you pick it up.

Good luck with your hunt and keep us posted.

Thanks @chartrock. I think the Jayco change up from camper trailer seems like natural progression as I recognise a few of the user names on here from the Myswag site. I'm chasing an Expanda for the room with the kids that just seem to keep getting bigger. I discounted interstate because of the distance but Coffs isn't really that far so I might give them a try.

I will keep you posted!

Sorry I did not read and absorb your thread heading telling me it was an Expanda.

We bought our first Expanda from Jayco Newcastle but we could have saved another $1000 if we were prepared to go to Melbourne but the extra time, accommodation and fuel costs negated most of this. I had a mate I could stay with in Newcastle so what we saved there (over $2000) made it worthwhile. There is no major problem with rego, just tell them it will be registered in Qld and they will arrange a temporary travel permit allowing you to tow it home. Local DMR accept the factory gas certificate and weights if registered shortly after pickup.

You can try them but I have never heard a good report about them. Not many bad ones either just my own experience of lack of interest from them.

Hunt around, play one dealer of another.
We brought floor stock in SA and brought it back to Vic and saved although it was end of August when they wanted to get rid of 2015 models.
If you find someone with any 2015 you could save $'s although had people in it for a year although extended drawbar will be harder to find on a display model and unlike the rest of your add ons not easy to put on later.
Some dealers sell floor stock for 2016 others do not. So yes hunt around you might save on floor stock you may save on new.

They have basic prices on the web now $51,984 17.56-2 OB
Prices from 2014 option list
add extended drawbar $300
Drifter $515
Shelves $103
Stereo $508
Battery $398
Picnic table $240
TV Aerial $378
Hyland coupling $398
Solar sorry was older option we paid $650 for one 150w there was $80 upgrade from 120-150 at the show.

Add this up its around the same $ as RRP. see if you can get a more recent options list

Hi Jason,
I would recommend you push as hard as you can!!!
I normally do the horse trading in our family (I do a lot of buying and selling in my job) but this time I put my wife onto it and I was in awe of what she achieved!!
We have purchased a 2016 16.49-3 OB, which retailed with all the extras we wanted at a little over $52k.

She started with 5 dealers throughout vic & nsw and got them all competing against each other, by saying "we have an offer of $xxxx from another dealer (never named the dealers), what's the best you can you do?" And made it clear that just matching the price wouldn't cut it.
The lowest offer she got was $47k from two dealers, so she then went back to them both and said "we've had an offer of $46k if we buy today from the other dealer - can you beat it?". One dealer said he'd match it, but the other dropped to just below $46k so we purchased from them - a saving of over $6k from retail.

What frustrated me was that when I called the other dealer to say he'd missed out, I told him the final price and padded the truth a bit and said they'd thrown in the bigger wheels as well - he asked if he could match that to get the business but by then we'd paid the deposit. So if we'd got that it would have been almost $6.5k off retail!!

You need to put your pride in your pocket to do it this way as they get a bit cranky, but for that sort of discount it's worth it.
Cheers, Jemmo

What about the Gold Coast dealer? I've never heard of anyone who has bought from them.
Gold Coast gave me our lowest quote off the bat without any haggling. I had been dealing with Brisbane originally but decided to get quotes from GC, Bundy and Coffs. Brisbane were happy to beat the price and we went with them on our Starcraft. Push hard and phone around. We saved an additional couple of grand this way. Goodluck.

I'm the same as bluey I got a 17-56-2 OB with 5 extras
Picnic table
Radio indoor and outdoor
TV aerial
Cost to coast panel ( not sure if that's standard)
And out door shower for $44600 they accidentally quoted me on a touring when I ask for outback. I said you have to honour that now. With a bit of umming and aring they said they will but I had to put a deposit now so I did. I nearly put a deposit on a second hand 2014 17-56-2 two weeks earlier for 43000. So $1600 more I got myself a new one.

Nice deal, don't think I'm lucky enough to get that deal.
