Just put an order in for a auto 2014 Hilux. Anyone have any feedback on the gearbox? Unfortunately I might not be able to tow my van due to the 2500kg towing capacity but am also going to look into a towing package and use it for short trips.

I know of one 2013 Hilux auto that wont tow 2100kg without the box overheating, even sitting at 95kph.
Once it overheats, it feels like the hand brake is stuck on.
Sometimes it'll do 150-200 ks and other times it'll only do 60-80 ks or so before it overheats.
He just pulls up has a beer, curses the dealer, Toyota and every one else, then once it's cooled down enough off he goes again.
The only reason he keeps it is generally he doesn't tow the van very far
and he's put way too many extras on it so cant get enough back if he sells.
In saying that I also have two other mates that have auto Hiluxes and don't have any issues,
(other than not being able to keep up with my Ranger:adoration:)

My 2008 hilux's auto would overheat if I went over 100km/hr. Even with no hills. Was pretty gutless too. Vans ATM was under 2500

Isn't the new Kluger looking one coming out shortly. They are doing deals on Hilux's at the moment.

What I means was they are very similar cars so I was wondering what could be so bad with it. To be honest my days of going to Toyota dealers are over after having my Mazda. I would definitely get another one but I would have a look at a Ranger too. There have been a few on here who have had issues with their Rangers which is weird.

No we've got it all wrong, the Hilux is so much better than our Ranger/BT50s!
It's bigger, cheaper, drives better, has more power and is more fuel efficient.
(There is not one bit of truth in that)
I'd say the new one will have a huge upgrade.

Where do I start. I'd say my Ranger would have to be the worst car I've ever owned hands down. In the two and a bit years I've had it, I have lost count how many times it's been on a tow truck. Fleet of electrical problems. On its second computer now. Gearbox troubles, was using oil. Then leaking Seals. Gearbox removed and new seals. Cheap Interior has that many rattles and bits have fallen off. As for fuel economy I get better kms out of my 200 series. I'd say I just got the Friday arvo build. But damage as been done. I'll stick to what I know I the future. As they say Ford circled their problem.

Should have gone for the Beast, (BT50) a dream to drive, nothing to complain about after two very long trips (17500km in 2012 and 10500 just this July). Smooth, comfortable, powerful, drives like a car.
Oh well, once bitten twice shy I suppose.
I know Ranger and BT have the same chassis and engine, supposedly but personally I think there is a huge diff between Ford and Mazda as far as quality is concerned. Met a fair few other Beast drivers on last trip, not one had anything bad to say, quite the opposite.

I have had my Ranger since 2012 and the only problem I had was a flat battery , found out about having the indicator on and turning the ignition off quote rocking ranger (newranger forum) "That's the European Saftey feature, if u have ur indicator engaged when u turn you car off the the park light stays on the same side as the indicator. Most European cars have this feature."
Other than that never missed a beat. Also had to pull my brothers v8 landcruiser out of a bog on the beach:boink:
