If ive upgraded to a compressor fridge when ordering, do you think Jayco would remove the vents on the outside of the van (high & low) that are essentially there for the 3 way absorption models?
I understand compressor fridges still need some ventilation, but there should be enough around the top and bottom of the fridge internally. Potentially underneath it aswell.

Excellent. Thats the sort of response I was hoping for. Had seen it on another manufacturer so was curious if jayco would also do it.

@Brente1982 , all fridges be they compressor or 3 way need to have adequate ventilation. Running a compressor fridge in an enclosed space will eventually build up heat that is trapped around unit. Continuous running in a warm to hot climate will cause compressor to run hotter than designed and cause inefficient operation and premature failure. You need to have somewhere to dispose of the heat outside. Just like domestic fridges in household situations are never totally built in and are always open at the top. Those frost free type typically have fans in the base to remove air from underneath to the outside area away from the fridge itself. I have had to clean out the bottom area underneath fan forced fridges of mice nests and other foreign materials to improve fridge operation and even had to drill a series of holes in the side of a surrounding wooden cabinet to get airflow into area of compressor. Just have a read of some of the instructions on Waeco or Engel portable fridges for their instructions on keeping the area clear of compressor fan.

I'm well aware of their need for adequate ventilation. What I'd like to avoid is another dust ingress point. There can be adequate ways to provide ventilation around the fridge from inside the van, be it a vent on top of the fridge enclosure etc etc.

Its really a furphy about dust getting in via the fridge vents, well it is if the fridge is fitted correctly, its when they fit it wrong that dust gets in.

Stopping dust into the van can be as simple as putting the plugs in drains but thats another topic.

On my own van, I have fitted a compressor fridge and with the existing top vent I have now fitted an external shower in approximately 2/3rd of the old vent space. The remaining part I have fitted a vent cover with fan that extracts air if the ambient temperate is gets warm. Fridge works faultlessly. I somewhat based my thinking on the Kedron van logic.
If you watch some of the Kedron customer delivery videos on YouTube you will see they just have an access panel with fans behind the fridge motors. Example can be seen at the 16..30 mark

The way to go to keep compressor fridge running cool @Brente1982. Great van @rags to demonstrate your point too.

Blow raining cats and dogs in Yamba ,in a break checked if any water getting in the large Dometic fridge vents. Guess what. About as useful as the proverbials on a bull at stopping moisture going in. Havent got the cover on as moving van in and out. anybody found a good idea to stop rain going inside that area.
