Hi,
happy to read that you are enjoying the town I grew up in.
I discovered that it has changed a lot when we went back for a reunion late last year.
But it still has a lot of charm.
If you get a chance go and have a beer for me at my old watering hole, the Criterion Hotel.
Actually, I probably had ten or more watering holes over the years.
If you do go in, please post a photo, it would make my day!

Maryborough had something like 21 hotels in my days. The drinking age was 21 and on a 21st birthday party,
it was quite common for a group to set off early in the evening intent on visiting all 21 hotels and having a beer in each.
A proper pub crawl. I have never met anyone that visited all 21 hotels.

As I discovered on my 21st, it isn't that one cannot drink 21 beers in a session. It is just that after visiting ten or so pubs, there seems
little reason to get off the comfortable stool and walk to another pub when having another beer in the present one seems to be much more practical!
Good old days, you either drank XXXX in Qld or you went thirsty.

take care
Mike
