Om my 2010 model I simply removed the rubber seal around the hard lid cut the sail track to length ran a bead of silicone where required stuck the sail track on and put the seal back on.

Pretty simple really and strong as, just make sure you put the press studs in the right spot other wise the storm cover will be to short.

Ill see if I can find a pic of where they sit but they go on the outer lip not the inner if that makes sense.

Here's a pic of what I was talking about the studs on the inner lip are for the privacy screens and the ones on the outer are for the storm covers.

You can see in this pic the sail track is attached differently to the way I did it, you can also remove the seal and pop rivet them onto the flat then replace the seal.

Six to one half a dozen to the other really.

How do you find closing the lid with storm covers fitted. We hired a van that came fully fitted and it was a squeeze closing the lid, needed two people to push and poke the covers while the lid was closed. Remember we were knew to the whole Expanda thing and were probably doing it all wrong. Then I saw a photo of a van (for sale) and his covers somehow neatly sorted themselves against the underside of the lid making it dead easy to close it up. I'm keen to get the covers I want to do the best installation possible. The track that the cover people sell is plastic so I wondered if it would take a bend, didn't look too hopeful though.

The plastic track will curve, but bending with crease it. I used ally track on mine, also curves fine. I have the first generation hard lid so I attached the track under the seal which is very close to the external edge of the lid, and I cant close the lid with the cover on where I have the track mounted.

I have a shock cord strung up across the under side of the lid which supports my permanently mounted privacy screen, that would likely work just as well for the storm cover mounted inside the lid

I always take our storm cover off before closing the lid.
Only takes less than 2 mins to slide on when needed. I did have full set of instructions for installation a year or so back.
Will need to dig deep to find it if you really need it. Seems like you have already started/ worked it out.
Make sure you measure the location of the studs though.
When the storm cover is on, make sure you push the ends on the van side in so as to deflect water away from the bed end.
We do leave our privacy screen attached as it easily folds in under the lid when closing without the need for any special effort.

The photo on post #2 shows how the track is in 3 straight section, 1 on each side. The storm cover just curves around the corners. No leakage.

Thanks To all for the photos and info.
Kids have borrowed the van so I can’t measure anything, but want to get all the bits ahead of time ready for the next trip.

I find the storm covers hard to fit has anybody used a a zip on method , slide a 50mm canvas piece into sale track mount and leave there permanently and when you you want to use the storm covers just zip them on

Ours is the sail track type, takes about 2 mins to put on or take off. Cant leave it on as my lid wont close! My track sits on the outside edge of the lid. We are in the middle of a trip on central qld coast (Kinka Beach) so it hasnt had a wash for a while.
