So I picked up my new rig this arvo. Got it home and unhitched.
Once I had showed the kids and locked the door, I realised I had not thought about security at home.
Ive seen pictures of ball locks before. And heard of people chaining their boats/vans to the ground.

But what out there ? What's the recommendation without breaking the bank?

Cheers

Some have gps trackers. Others chain axles to wheels. Some use bollards. Storing the van with drop jacks down etc will slow them down a tad.

How about jack stands and removing and storing elsewhere the wheels. I've seen so many suggestions of just having it fully insured but that doesn't help the stress of losing it, all the plans you had for it and all the hours you may have spent modifying it. For us it's just all about where it is in the backyard and accessing it through the son's neighbouring property. It's hard enough for me to get it out of there and need the battery powered mover.

Have a hitch lock and wheel clamp and ours is behind a large set of gates.
If someone wants it they will take it.. thinking of a GPS tracker.

Yes I know people who chain there axles down as well. or take the wheels off and put it on blocks.

My view is the same as @davemc ... If they want it they'll try.
We have the high tensile chain and padlock looped through the wheels and axle. Won't stop them but will slow them down.
Good thing about our street is that we have retirees and stay at home Mum's as neighbours that we get on with and we all look out for each other.

Also having a 27kg loud dog in the yard helps to keep unwanted people away from the yard!

We run a heavy chain through the wheels to the drop down step as well as a hitch lock but it's not visible from the street so we hope that's enough.
If it was on a driveway I'd be looking at setting some heavy anchor points in the concrete and chaining to that but if they want it all that will do is slow them down.

I'd suggest you refrain from giving any detail of your address to anyone likely to troll through sites...not this one of course as we are all safe and honest.

And poor!

People around the corner from me at one stage removed the hitch from the A frame, no dragging it away without that fitted..

That would definately slow me down if I wanted to get away for a weekend.

I'm now going to go through and around our pride and joy and update the photographic record we have.....just in case.

It's a fine balance between safety and ease of use and we all have different priorities.

Not wanting to give anyone any ideas!!!! Have heard that the "Bad Guys" check out what they want and carry hitches to suit.... They drag the van/trailer away by the chains... Fit the hitch and away they go!!

not EVERYone will tell you completely what security measures they have - only a "general idea" - so naughty people dont get ideas.......

years ago, when my old dog was around, (he was an Akita Inu) if the van was out the front, I used to chain him to it, until he tried to go after someone / something - dragged the Van about 4m before I stopped him (long story short - powerful bugger he was)

mine is parked behind a 6 foot fence in the back yard
gates are padlocked (*Try posting a bit more so your post isn't boring* different ones) and the gates are 3 man job to take off the hinges - if you can
noisy muppet (dog)
but
as I have the Treg hitch, I have one of these that goes on straight away once unhitched - camping of parking at home
hitch lok.jpg

you can also just buy the lock itself
hitch lock.JPG

as has been said, if they want it - they will

other security things to think about are

the GPS Trackers..... if they succeed, at least you know where it is
hitch lock
sink a 4 inch diam steel rod into ground, (concreted in) with a chain to the chassis
remove wheels when not in use - but put wheel nut locks on
park it out the back
put a bollard in between the A frame (as per @Matty4 photo)
get a bloody great big dog

I've got wheel clamp, hitch lock, drop legs down, remove jockey wheel - sitting on stands
And put Van cover on. And security cameras on house so I can see how much trouble they
Had removing all that. The boys in blue will also get copies for most wanted list.
